        Ordinary incandescent lamps emit light by heating a filament with electricity, while both LED and fluorescent lamps require a converter between the lamp and the power source. What is this converter? Do they use the same converter? LEDs use led drivers, while fluorescent lamps use ballasts. The functions of ballasts and led drivers are very similar, so it is easy to get confused.
        Fluorescent ballasts facilitate this by providing an initial high voltage spike that acts as a current regulator once the lamp is on. The led power driver is a power converter that converts the power supply into a specific voltage and current to drive the LED to emit light. They both keep the light from being affected by the power source.
        Are Ballasts used for LEDs?  LEDs use direct current and cannot use alternating current directly, so an led driver is required to convert the alternating current into a direct current. Over the years, there have been many changes in ballast design and complexity. Ballasts can run fluorescent lights, but not energy-efficient lights like LEDs. Some led drivers appeared to get rid of ballasts. Because the led driver can do most of the work of the ballast, it is more efficient.
