How can led driver efficiency be improved?

In order to improve the efficiency of LED drivers, we need to know what factors affect the efficiency of LED drivers?
The main function of the LED lighting driver is to convert the input AC voltage into a current whose output voltage can vary with the LED forward voltage Vf conduction voltage drop. The LED driver is a key component for the effective operation of the LED light. The quality of the LED driver directly affects the reliability and stability of the overall lamp.
Based on 16 years of experience in the production and development of LED drivers, we have summarized the following main reasons that affect the efficiency of LED power supply:
1. The LED lamp bead's forward voltage variation range is not considered, resulting in low lamp efficiency and even unstable operationThe load working voltage of LED lamps corresponds to VoL at high temperature, and the load working voltage of LED lamps corresponds to VoH at low temperature. Because led drivers voltage is only in a certain range, when choosing an LED driver, consider that the driver output voltage range is greater than VoL~VoH, and the driver efficiency is the highest. After the range is exceeded, the efficiency and power factor (PF) will become worse.
2. The power margin and derating requirements are not considered
When choosing LED drivers, it should be considered and selected based on the actual ambient temperature and input voltage conditions during actual use, and a derating margin should be appropriately set aside.
3. Don't understand the working characteristics of LED
The volt-ampere characteristics of the Lamp bead determine that the LED power supply is a constant current source, and its output voltage changes with the series voltage of the LED load. Under the condition that the overall efficiency of driver circuit is basically unchanged, its input power changes with the series voltage of the LED load.
4. The efficiency of different loads varies
The series-parallel connection of the LED lamps will also affect the efficiency of the Led driver. Different drivers have a corresponding Led series-parallel connection with the best efficiency.
5. The following conditions that often occur will cause damage to the LED driver:
(1) Connect AC to the DC output terminal of the drive, causing LED driver to fail;
(2) The constant current output terminal and the dimming light are connected together, causing LED power supply to fail;
(3) The phase wire is connected to the ground wire, which causes driver circuit to have no output and the housing is electrified;
6. Drive heat dissipation
When drivers is installed in a non-ventilated environment, led driver housing should be in contact with the lamp housing as much as possible, and thermally conductive glue or thermal pad should be applied to the contact surface of the housing and the lamp housing to improve the heat dissipation performance of the driver, thereby ensuring the life and reliability of the driver .(This aspect can also understand the news of this site:The main factors affecting the life of LED drivers)
